Hi, I’m Aimee. A mental health counselor in the Caribbean. I am using this platform to discuss mental health in the Caribbean and provide psychoeducation on various mental health topics.
Here we will talk about the reality of mental health in the Caribbean but also in general; statistics will be given, stories will be told and mental health will be explored. We need to end the stigma surrounding mental health and that starts with talking about it first even if we have to be vulnerable and makes us uncomfortable. Healing and growth does not come without any tears or hardship but together we can pull through it.
What People Say
“There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.”
― John Green
“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
— Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
We all deserve a chance to tell our story, our struggles, our failures and our achievements. This blog will explore some of the darkest areas of mental health that aren’t talked about often but it will also focus on positivity and growth. I welcome you to read the posts, be open, be kind to yourself while reading them and most of all walk away knowing you can reach out for help.
“The advice I’d give to somebody that’s silently struggling is, you don’t have to live that way. You don’t have to struggle in silence. You can be un-silent. You can live well with a mental health condition, as long as you open up to somebody about it, because it’s really important you share your experience with people so that you can get the help that you need.” — Demi Lovato
